Common-Sense Prevention Treatments To Help Avoid Cancer

In this article we will look at ways in which you can help to prevent becoming a victim to cancer. Cancer prevention treatment is not really a groundbreaking concept, but more about making some common-sense choices in your life to reduce the risks of getting cancer.

The first prevention treatment is by far the most obvious and we all know about it already. Tobacco! Yes, you've heard it a million times already, but smoking is a massive killer and is responsible for thousands of deaths every year. Along with heart disease and numerous other illnesses, smoking can lead to cancer. It's no secret, but it is a fact that many of us choose to ignore. The reason for this is simple. It is human nature that we block out things that are unthinkable. We choose to believe that the truly awful things in life only happen to other people. Murder, kidnapping etc. Nobody ever thinks something this dreadful will ever happen to him or her and cancer is no exception. Smokers are not only addicted to the nicotine, but the actual habit itself. You will probably only understand this if you are, (or have been a smoker). When you attempt to give up smoking the nicotine, (the addictive drug) is actually out of our system within 48 hours. But, even after weeks or months of not smoking, we still crave a cigarette, especially if we have had a bad day or are in a social environment where there are other smokers. Why? Because our brains have accepted smoking as normality and in a way it becomes part of who we are. The only way I can describe it to a non-smoker is with food. Imagine you have just had a meal; you are full up and not hungry in the slightest. Then someone comes out the kitchen eating your favourite dessert. Do you want some? Of course you do, because your brain knows that you will enjoy eating that dessert. Well, smoking is like that. However, it is possible to stop smoking, and more people are doing it now than ever before. It is without a doubt the best cancer prevention treatment there is.

There are so many ways to give up smoking. There is nicotine replacement therapy, which can be patches, gum, or inhalators. There is meditation therapy, self-help books and even hypnotism. Whatever method you try, the most important thing to remember throughout is that you should never give up giving up!

The next thing to look at in cancer prevention treatment is the sun. If you are a sun worshipper you are probably already aware of the dangers of UV, (ultra violet) rays. These rays are responsible for the majority of skin cancers and you should always be careful in the sun. Wear a high factor sun lotion, and re-apply throughout the day. You should also consider wearing a hat, especially if you have a fair complexion. The likelihood of getting skin cancer through UV rays depends largely on your complexion and skin type. If you have a fair complexion then you have less pigment in your skin. It is this pigment that helps to block out harmful rays so in general you are more at risk and will benefit most from using sun lotion as a prevention treatment.

The last cancer prevention treatment we will look at here is more generic and really includes your whole lifestyle. There are lots of foods you can eat that may be a good source of cancer prevention. Your diet should be high in fruit and vegetables, (not just for cancer prevention treatment but for general well-being). There is also evidence that diets in mono-unsaturated fat help to prevent some cancers, breast cancer in particular. Soy products can help to prevent prostate cancer. Cutting down on high-fat meats and alcohol will be beneficial all-round, as will plenty of good wholesome exercise.

Basically, cancer prevention treatment is all about living a clean healthy lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with unhealthy foods if they are eaten in moderation, but try to think of them as a treat, rather than part of your everyday diet. Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water, (especially if you live in a hot climate) and make sure you exercise regularly.
